For Sikich, a professional services firm with a robust content ecosystem and a large digital footprint, I spearheaded a complete website redesign and migration project focused on performance, scalability, and content structure. Their previous WordPress site had become bloated and sluggish over time — burdened by outdated code, excessive third-party plugins, and thousands of posts managed through inconsistent systems.
The primary goal of the redesign was optimization. Sikich needed a site that loaded fast, performed well under traffic, and could handle the depth and breadth of their content without sacrificing usability. To address this, I built a completely custom WordPress theme, tailored from the ground up to support their unique content model, branding, and performance needs.
A major part of this build involved the migration of thousands of blog posts, whitepapers, and resource items, all carefully transferred from the legacy system into a new custom block-based architecture. I developed a suite of bespoke Gutenberg blocks specifically for Sikich’s content creators, enabling them to build flexible, modular layouts without compromising consistency or performance.
From a structural standpoint, the new site was architected with clean, semantic markup, minimal reliance on third-party bloat, and a lean stylesheet and JavaScript footprint. The result is a site that feels lightning fast and performs well across all devices, scoring high across Core Web Vitals and delivering a much better experience for end users and internal teams alike.
To ensure content remains discoverable and SEO-friendly, I implemented 301 redirect mapping, preserved legacy URL structures where needed, and worked closely with their internal marketing team to ensure that metadata, schema, and taxonomy were handled cleanly during the migration. The result was a seamless transition with no SEO fallout, despite the size and scope of the migration.
Sikich’s site also integrates with several third-party platforms and APIs, which were streamlined and hardened during the rebuild for reliability and speed. Key sections of the site such as the Insights blog were restructured to surface related content more intelligently and allow for deeper user engagement without slowing the site down.
The relaunch of Sikich’s website didn’t just modernize their design — it transformed the way they manage and deliver content, empowered their marketing team with better tools, and delivered a huge win in terms of speed, usability, and long-term maintainability. This project stands as a great example of how a tailored WordPress build — with the right development strategy — can evolve an enterprise-scale website without compromise.
